C-47 Scenic Flights at the 2023 Owls Head Transportation Museum Wings and Wheels Spectacular 4-6 August 2023

     We are excited to announce that the American Airpower Museum Douglas C-47 “Skytrain” will be attending the Owls Head Transportation Museum 2023 Wings and Wheels Spectacular 5-6 August 2023 at the Knox Country Regional Airport hosted by the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Owls Head, Maine. During our weekend visit we will be offering Scenic Flight Experience Rides before and after the Air Show Program beginning on Saturday August 5th with rides continuing on Sunday August 6th.      The American Airpower Museum C-47 Flight Experience a unique opportunity to take a flight back in time aboard a WWII original military configured C-47 just as they were when they carried the legendary Paratroopers of the 101st and 82nd Airborne who made history in the first wave of the D-Day Invasion to liberate Europe on 6 June 1944. C-47s were the primary airlift workhorse of WWII carrying paratroopers, cargo, and vital supplies for allied forces around the globe. The C-47 continued in service after World War Two making history in the Berlin airlift 1948-1949, providing airlift during the Korea War, airlift and special operations platforms during the Vietnam War, and operations throughout the Cold War. The C-47 is still in service all around the globe making it one of the longest serving aircraft in history. The American Airpower Museum Flight Experience includes the following: The Scenic C-47 flight experience begins at the Owls Head Transportation Museum facility with a passenger welcome, safety briefing, and aircraft boarding. Flights will require a minimum of 6 Passengers to fly during the scheduled flight period, if the minimum is not met flights may be combined from two different flight periods. Maximum of 10 Passengers per flight. The Scenic Flight Experience duration is approximately 15 minutes of flight around the scenic Owls Head Local Airport Area. During the Flight you will enjoy the beautiful local scenery and get a chance to observe the pilots in action and will have the opportunity to interact with our Volunteer Aircrew who will provide history of the C-47 missions, and of our own WWII and Berlin Airlift Veteran Aircraft. The flight will return to the Owls Head Transportation Museum where you will be able to enjoy both the Museum and Air Show. Please note, all passengers must be at least 12 years old to fly. Persons 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Admission to the Owls Head transportation Museum Wings and Wheels Spectacular is required to fly with us and not included in the cost of the flight. Cost of a seat aboard the C-47 Scenic Flight Experience:     $175.00 per person. *Tickets will be refunded for flights canceled due to weather or maintenance. Honor Flight Long Island 2023 Veterans Reunion – 5 August 11:00am

LI Veterans Reunion at American Airpower Museum after Honor Flight Trip to Washington, D.C. on August 5th, 2023 at 11:00am. 37 Vietnam War Veterans Receive Long Overdue Recognition and Thanks for Military Servic On Saturday, August 5, 2023, American Airpower Museum and Honor Flight Long Island will host a patriotic reunion of 37 Vietnam War, two World War II and five Korean War veterans.  On April 29, 2023, Honor Flight escorted this band of brothers on an early flight to Washington, D.C.  Veterans and their guardians visited WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials, Arlington National Cemetery for a “Changing of the Guard,” the Air Force Memorial and Iwo Jima Memorial.  They returned to Islip that evening for a raucous welcome by the Nassau County Fire Fighters Pipe and Drum Band, plus thunderous applause from hundreds of families and supporters! According to Bill Jones, HFLI President, West Point 1972 Graduate and U.S. Army veteran, “This special flight included 37 Vietnam veterans who received long overdue recognition and thanks for their military service.  They were accompanied on this flight by two WWII and five Korean War veterans.  What this flight represented was a ‘Big Hug’ to all our veterans from Honor Flight, their families and supporters who make such flights possible,” he said. On August 5, 2023, American Airpower Museum opens at 10:30 a.m. and the reunion is from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at AAM’s Hangar 3, 1230 New Highway, Farmingdale, NY 11735. The public is encouraged to attend, applaud and cheer our veterans during a “Ceremony of Honors,” as each is presented with a personalized Tribute Journal full of photographs taken during their historic day in Washington, D.C.  Admission for veterans, their guardians and families, is free.  Members of the public arriving for the event from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. may also attend free of charge!  After 12:00 p.m., regular museum admission is free for members, $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and veterans, $10 for children ages 5-12 and free for children ages 4 and under.   This great patriotic event includes speeches by HFLI President Bill Jones and AAM President and Founder Jeff Clyman.  The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla Band will play a popular medley known as the “Armed Forces Salute,” featuring five official melodies of the U.S. Armed Forces:  Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.  Free refreshments for all provided by HFLI!  

Celebrate 4th of July Weekend at the American Airpower Museum

Calling all Red, White and Blue Cake Lovers!  Enter the American Airpower Museum’s “Fourth of July Cake Contest” for a chance to win a delicious July 4th gourmet cake sponsored by Stew Leonard’s of Farmingdale!   Starting on Friday, June 30, 2023, all AAM paying guests who visit the museum will encounter a decorated table in front of our docent desk, and on this table, they’ll find a giant Red, White and Blue decorated cake, replete with pens and flags.  Museum guests will each be given a small flag and in honor of a family member, or friend who is serving or has served in the United States Military or as a first responder will add it to our 4th of July Cake Display!  Our docents will have an entrance sheet to take down participants names, contact information for when the winner is announced.  AAM guests can continue entering the contest through Sunday, July 2nd, to honor America’s birthday and the sacrifices of their loved ones who served our great nation.  A photograph of our “cake” with all the flags will be posted on Social Media July 4th, since AAM will be closed giving all our volunteers a chance to celebrate the holiday with their families. All Patriotic Long Islanders can enter our “Fourth of July Cake Contest” with admission to the museum. Warbird Weekend and Jones Beach Air Show Flight Operations 2023

      Join us this Memorial Day Weekend where history flies at the American Airpower Museum’s first Warbird Weekend of 2023! This weekend the museums collection of legendary Warbirds will perform in the 2023 Annual Bethpage Federal Credit Union Jones Beach Air Show! This year we are excited to honor our veterans past and present when our World War II North American P-51D Mustang, Grumman TBM-3E Avenger, Douglas C-47B Skytrain, and North American AT-6s will fly a fly past and review for the great crowds on at Jones Beach State Park May 26th, 27th, and 28th. Our Air Show Performance at Jones beach will conclude with an aerobatic demonstration of the the P-51D! In addition to our daily air show launch and recovery our warbirds will fly for our visitors to watch at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport throughout the day- weather, and air traffic permitting. Air Show flight operations begin early Friday – Sunday at approximately 10:30am to 11:00am.       You can also see our flight line display including the visiting United States Navy EA-18G Growler Electronic Attack Aircraft, our North American B-25 Mitchell “Miss Hap”, the visiting Curtiss P-40N “American Dream”, and our collection of static historic Air Force and Navy Aircraft including the venerable hometown hero – the Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II built 43 years ago on the grounds we operate out of today! This is a family friendly event with activities and tours for kids of all ages, as well as our WWII C-45 open cockpits, and our unique flight simulator available to test your pilot skills for a small donation to the museum’s operational fund. Hours of Operation for Memorial Day Weekend: Friday May 26th through Sunday May 28th – 10:00am to 5:00pm Monday(Memorial Day) May 29th – 10:00am to 4:00pm Parking is limited on site due to recent airport construction and changes made out of our control to the airport grounds. Free Parking is available on New Highway but at your own risk and we ask that you stay off the main road for your safety if you choose to walk to the museum. Some surrounding businesses may offer their lots for a fee, but be advised they are not associated with the museum in any way.  No advanced tickets are required- Admission is purchased upon entry. Swing Under the Stars – Hangar Dance at the American Airpower Museum

Join us Saturday June 17th for an evening of Big Band Music and more as We Swing under the stars and Air Planes in our Vintage Aircraft Hangar! Our volunteer AAM brass band will play songs of the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s in our hangar from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.
